MV-58 is a stainless steel brand that is very popular in Spain but rarely found outside the country (in fact, it's not even entirely clear who produces it there). However, as Spain is one of the few European countries where industrial-scale knife production has been preserved, many products made from this material are available on the market. It is a high-chromium steel (14-15%) with a carbon content of 0.45% to 0.55%. Alloying elements include molybdenum, vanadium, manganese, and silicon. Clearly, its greatest advantage is its corrosion resistance. In terms of hardness, this composition allows for a range of 56-58 HRC, which is comparable to other good stainless steels. Reputable Spanish manufacturers manage to achieve hardness near the upper end of this range thanks to cryogenic hardening technology.
