1095 is an American high-carbon industrial steel with a very simple chemical composition: 0.9% to 1.0% carbon, with 0.30-0.50% manganese as an alloying element. It's a long-produced steel that is tough, chip-resistant, relatively wear-resistant, and easy to sharpen. A professional heat treatment can turn this steel into an excellent blade, although it requires proper care from the owner—1095 is prone to corrosion.
