Russian R12 steel is a very hard (64-67 HRC) high-speed tool steel that guarantees the knife will "hold an edge" for a very long time.

"Bystroriez" is a colloquial Russian name for knives made of R12 steel – a very hard (64-67 HRC) tool steel that guarantees the knife will hold an edge for a very long time. The flip side of the coin is that blades of such hardness are less flexible, meaning they are more brittle. By no means are these throwing knives. They are also not corrosion-resistant. The anti-corrosion coating will wear off over time, so after returning from the field, they should be lubricated and stored in a dry place.
