Description

A replica of a Yakutian knife made of forged damascus steel with a handle of Karelian birch. Yakutian knives replicate the form of historical knives originally made from split animal bones. Therefore, one side of the blade, the one without a groove, is slightly convex. The groove (with remaining forging marks) on the other side stiffens the blade, saves material and reduces weight. The handle is made of (unstabilized) Karelian birch without any guard or thickening that would protect the hand from slipping onto the blade. This is a drawback, but very common in the knives of the northern peoples, including Scandinavian puukkos. These knives simply were like that. Probably to use it efficiently you have to be a Yakut. The leather sheath also replicates the form of the original sheaths; besides the belt loop it has ribbons for attaching it to a belt.
