Description

A new material variant of the Kizlyar Supreme knife, a direct descendant of Soviet combat knives from World War II. Anyone who has seen the legendary scout knives like the NR-40 or NR-43 will easily recognize the Vector's origins. The straight blade, with a parallel cutting edge and spine, features a mandatory clipped point and a high flat grind. The spine near the tip is chamfered, apparently, ammunition boxes are still as tough to open today as they were then. The construction is a hidden tang, which means a wide tang is overmolded with Kraton, with the very end protruding about 2 mm from the pommel. It has a fully functional combat guard, which was possible to keep in the civilian version because blades thicker than 5 mm are not subject to the restrictions applied to knives classified as weapons, and the Vector has a spine thickness of 5.6 mm. On the manufacturer's website, you can find discussions about how the Kizlyar designers aimed to create a universal knife for both tourists and hunters. I won't comment on that, but one thing is certain: the knife meets the current (as of 2024) demand of the Russian knife market. On this market, this type of equipment is sought after by crowds of tourists, hunters, and probably also anglers, mushroom pickers, and pharmacists, all of whom, by some strange coincidence, happen to run around in camouflage. The knife is clearly selling well, as new material variants of the Vector are constantly being released. This particular version features a blade made of Sleipner steel with a hardness of 61 HRC. All Vectors have Kraton handles and rigid polypropylene sheaths. Until now, they were available in black or olive drab, this variant comes in desert tan. The blade has a stonewash finish.

The Dagestani company Kizlyar Supreme (not to be confused with Kizlyar, also from Dagestan) is one of several Russian knife manufacturers widely known outside of Russia. Kizlyar Supreme focuses on combining the old traditions of Caucasian knife makers with the latest production technologies. Kizlyar Supreme products are the result of the manual work of craftsmen who have been making knives for generations, except that today they have state-of-the-art programmable machining centers and hardening furnaces at their disposal.
