Taiozhnyi (karelian birch handle)
Description
A hunting knife produced by AiR of Zlatoust, made of 95X18 steel, a high-quality stainless steel which is the Russian equivalent of 440C steel. In the production of stainless steel knives, the quality of the mechanical and thermal treatment is no less important than the quality of the material itself. 95X18 is a material where this principle is exemplified to the fullest. The prices of knives made from this steel can vary dramatically depending on the manufacturer. AiR is one of the oldest companies specializing in knife production in Zlatoust, a place famous for its centuries-old blacksmithing tradition. All knives are sold with a sheath and packaged in a soft fabric case.
The "Taiozhnyi" is a large knife with a partial high flat grind, a massive drop-point blade, and a 2mm fuller below the spine. The handle is made of Karelian birch. The handle is impregnated with an oil solution but is not vacuum stabilized. At the end of the handle, there is a hole for a lanyard or wrist strap. The sheath is a black, Finnish-style leather pouch sheath.
