Shaytan (layered damascus)
Description
Shaytan (Russian: шайтан, meaning devil or an evil spirit from Muslim mythology) is a large knife with a blade made of two forged Damascus packets (on the blade and on the butt) and a strip of U8 carbon steel decorated with nickel between them. The technology of joining the packets, much more laborious and requiring true blacksmithing skills, in addition to the exceptional aesthetic qualities of the products created thanks to it, has a very utilitarian sense. The point is that a softer steel is selected for the packet intended for the butt side of the blade, and a harder one for the blade side. As a result, a blade with better cutting properties and greater flexibility can be obtained. In this knife, the cutting edge is hardened to 61 HRC. The handle and sheath are made of black hornbeam with melchior castings.
