Scythian (stabilized karelyan birch handle)
Description
Damascus steel knife with drop point, sabre grind blade. The blade has special finish called "double digestion in acid" – the typical for damascus-type steel pattern of black lines is broken by blank fragments, where the pattern is absent. Handle made of stabilized karelyan birch – both practical (absorbs no water) and uniquely beautiful (no two identical wood grain patterns) material.
Contemporary russian damascus steel is obtained by forge-welding together several pieces of carbon steel with different carbon content. As there is no chromium added in the process the blades are not stainless and recquire proper care: should be wiped after use and, when back at home, oiled and kept in a dry place. The knife comes with a leather sheath.
These knives are handmade pieces, sizes of the same profile blades may slightly differ.
