Description

The Samsonov hunting knife, also known as the "Samsonov cleaver" or "Samsonov bear knife", is an iconic Russian knife with an exceptionally durable design, manufactured by the Tula blacksmith Yegor Petrovich Samsonov in artisanal production conditions for over 50 years - from the 1870s to 1930. The knife was described as a hunting knife, although today we would call it military or survival - the Samsonov has the attributes of a military knife, such as a straight blade, an aggressive grind with a false edge on the spine and a double-sided cross guard. In case of frequent jams of hunting firearms in the 19th century, the knife became the "last line of defense" for the hunter. An excellent advertisement for Samsonov's knives was the statement of Prince Sirinsky-Schychmatov, a famous hunter at that time, who recognized "Samsonov's Tula knives as the best for bear hunting". In the times of the USSR, the original Samsonov blades were subjected to destruction tests at the "Hammer and Sickle" factory - when placed upright under the press, they broke under a pressure of 14 tons. The number of "bear knives" made in Samsonov forge in Tula is estimated at 3,300-3,500 pieces. They gained such popularity that their clones were released by numerous private companies and the state factory in Zlatoust.

Kizlyar releases replicas of Samsonov knives in several variants differing in the blade material. The most popular are cheaper variants made of polished or blackened AUS-8. The pieces I offer are made of slightly more expensive Russian steel 110x18. Partial hollow grind. The knives have the status of combat knives in Russia and are available only to military personnel, hunters and officers of the law enforcement agencies, as evidenced by the number placed on the blade under the crossguard. When purchasing, the number is entered in the military booklet or service ID card. There is an inscription on the blade "Кизляр сделано в России 110X18" and on the other side "Самсонов" and the manufacturer's logo. Walnut handle. Leather sheath with snap button fastening.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russian Federation has introduced a ban on the export of numbered knives (i.e. combat knives) from the country, so after the items we currently have in stock are sold out, they will become completely unavailable for some time.

The Kizlyar company from Dagestan is one of several Russian knife manufacturers widely known outside Russia. Kizlyar boasts a combination of ancient traditions of Caucasian craftsmen specializing in the production of cold weapons and new production technologies.
