Plastun (damascus, birch bark+hornbeam wood)
Description
A light, short knife with a birch bark handle. The bark rings are strung onto the tang and squeezed between two pieces of wood, in this case, black hornbeam contrasting with the light birch. This handle construction, very light and practical, is often found in Finnish knives. Such a knife, especially if not additionally weighted with a metal guard or pommel, is light and with a good blade operates without any effort. The blade has a concave grind, blunted at the base on the blade side, with a finger groove. The handle is finished with a wooden protrusion acting as a pommel.
