Muromyec (9XC steel)
Description
Hand-forged knife made of 9XC tool steel. This steel is used for the production of metalworking tools such as drills and milling cutters. 9XC is a Russian designation. The number 9 means that the steel contains 0.9% carbon. The letters (of course, in the Cyrillic alphabet) "X" and "C" denote chromium (Cr) and silicon (Si) respectively, of which there is at least 1.5%. Knives and axes made of this steel appeared on the Russian market relatively recently. These are always forged products; they are not produced by stamping or rolling. To emphasize this, manufacturers almost always leave forging marks on the blades. Knives are hardened to 60-62 HRC, axes to 55-57 HRC.
Wooden handle finished on both sides with nickel silver castings: an ornamental guard and a head with a double-headed imperial eagle and the manufacturer's monogram.
