Legionary (birch bark + black hornbeam)
Description
A pattern welded damascus knife with a birch bark handle. Birch bark rings are strung onto the tang and squeezed between two pieces of wood, in this case, black hornbeam contrasting with the light birch. This handle construction, very lightweight and practical, is often found in Finnish knives. Such a knife, especially if not additionally weighted with a metal guard or pommel, is light and, with a good blade, operates without any effort. The butt of the blade is blunt, with a finger recess at the bottom. The handle ends with a wooden protrusion serving as a pommel.
