Melita K company from Kazan (Tatarstan) is among the top Russian manufacturers of knives, including those classified as combat knives. The latter are made to order for the power structures of the Russian Federation. Melita prides itself on using its own patented stainless steel (70X16МФС) surpassingother stainless steels in terms of hardness and flexibility. It also often uses camouflage coating on the blade.

Karatiel is a civilian version of the combat knife of the same name. To obtain permission to sell the knife without permits, the manufacturer abandoned the guard. The pommel is metal. The handle is rubber, just like the combat original. The sheath is leather. Karatiel has a very characteristic blade profile and grind. It has gained the status of a cult knife in Russia, and therefore its civilian clones are produced by many manufacturers. The Karatiel with a rubber handle from Melita K is the closest to the original among them, simply because it comes from the same manufacturer.
