Karatyel (leather handle)

Melita K company from Kazan (Tatarstan) is among the top Russian knife manufacturers, including those classified as combat knives. The latter are made to order for the law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation. Melita prides itself on using its own patented stainless steel (70X16МФС) surpassing other stainless steels in terms of hardness and flexibility. They also often apply camouflage coating to the blade.

Karatiel is a civilian version of the combat knife of the same name. To obtain permission to sell the knife without permits, the manufacturer removed the guard. The pommel is metal. The handle is rubber, just like the combat original. The sheath is leather. Karatiel has a very characteristic blade profile and grind. It has gained the status of a cult knife in Russia, therefore its civilian clones are produced by many manufacturers. Melita K knives are the closest to the original among them, simply because they come from the same manufacturer. In this Karatiel variant, the cheaper rubber handle has been replaced with a more aesthetic leather handle.
