Galeon (damascus, birch bark+hornbeam wood)
Description
A knife with a birch bark handle. Birch bark rings are threaded onto the tang and compressed between two pieces of wood, in this case, black hornbeam contrasting with the light birch. This handle construction, very light and practical, is often found in Finnish knives. Such a knife, especially if it is not additionally weighted with a metal guard or pommel, is light and, with a good blade, operates without any effort. The recurve blade with a clearly marked arc provides excellent cutting properties. High concave grind, the blade is blunted at the base on the blade side, with a finger recess. The handle is finished with a wooden protrusion acting as a pommel.
