Description

Corvo knives are traditional Chilean field knives, often mentioned in the literature, history, and folklore of the country. Similar to the Spanish navaja, they were both a common tool and a weapon – an attribute of a man. The most characteristic feature of the corvo is the blade, raised above the back line, bent at an angle approaching 90 degrees to the axis of the rest of the blade. This unusual profile resulted in the use of unusual techniques, specific only to the corvo, in which the use of the bent, beak-like point played a large role. The corvo is an icon in the Chilean armed forces, similar to the NR in the Soviet army orthe Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knifein the British one. Images of this knife are present on the shoulder patches of many units of the Chilean army. Below are the patches of the "Cobra" company from the "Lautaro" special forces brigade (the Chilean equivalent of Grom) and the emblem of the Paratrooper and Special Forces School (Escuela de Paracaidistas y Fuerzas Especiales de Chile).

The Corvo-5, designed by Biriukov, the chief designer of the NOKS company, is made in the style of heavy NOKS field knives, with rectangular rubber handles. The blade has a double-edged point and a 7-centimeter section with serrations on the butt. The tip of the knife is above the back line, but not so much as to exclude traditional thrusting. The knife is made of U8 carbon steel, not resistanttocorrosion, andrequires proper care.Rubber handle, with a hole for a lanyard or wrist wrap. Leather sheath with a snap button fastening.
