Commemorative Caucasian Dagger

This is a contemporary copy of a Caucasian dagger produced by the Dagestani company, Kizlyar. Such daggers were the traditional weapon of the peoples of the Caucasus, and over time, they began to appear in the equipment of Tsarist army units. The Caucasian dagger is a strictly combat knife, its size and blade geometry make it unsuitable for anything other than fighting. Well, perhaps with the exception of finishing off wounded game during a hunt. Today, they are produced only as luxurious accessories for the traditional costumes of Caucasian highlanders or the uniforms of some Cossack troops. However, they still possess features that unequivocally classify them (according to Russian regulations) as a melee weapon requiring a permit, just like a firearm. For the needs of the permit-free market, daggers with a so-called "weakened construction" are produced. In practice, this term can mean one of two things: either a particular dagger or saber has a weakened (in other words, filed down) tang, or its attachment to the handle in a push-tang assembly is weakened by using a weak adhesive. This very method was used in the gift replicas of Caucasian daggers produced by Kizlyar. The dagger has a 30-centimeter symmetrical dagger blade (unsharpened), a wooden sheath covered in black leather with decorative brass fittings, and a brass handle. The blade is adorned with a laser-engraved ornament. Additionally, the blade features a hologram confirming it is an authentic Kizlyar product, the manufacturer's logo, and the inscription: "Кизляр Сделано в России" (Kizlyar Made in Russia).

The Kizlyar company from Dagestan is one of several Russian knife manufacturers widely known outside of Russia. Kizlyar prides itself on combining the old traditions of Caucasian craftsmen specializing in the production of melee weapons with new production technologies.
