Cheglok (black hornbeam handle)

A hunting knife manufactured by AiR company from Zlatoust, made of 95X18 steel, a high-quality stainless steel, the Russian equivalent of 440C steel. In the production of knives from stainless steel, the quality of mechanical and thermal processing technology is no less important than the quality of the material itself. 95X18 is a material where this principle is manifested most fully. Prices of knives made of this steel can vary dramatically depending on the manufacturer. AiR is one of the oldest companies specializing in knife production in Zlatoust, a place known for its centuries-old tradition of blacksmithing. Cheglok is a rather long knife with a full flat grind and a blade slightly raised above the spine line. The handle is made of black hornbeam. The handle is impregnated with an oil solution but not vacuum stabilized. At the end of the handle there is a hole for a lanyard or wrist loop. Leather sheath, black, push-in, Finnish type.
