Bison (leather handle, gilding)

A hunting knife manufactured by the Zlatoust company, made of 95x18 steel. The blade features an eastern profile with the tip raised above the line of the handle. The spine, ground to a false edge, arches up towards the tip. The cutting edge is wave-shaped with a distinctly marked belly. It has a high hollow grind. Near the handle, there are concave unsharpened sections for fingers on both the top and bottom of the blade. The handle is made of leather rings stacked on a metal tang, finished on both ends with pieces of Textolite - a guard and a pommel. The pommel has a hole for attaching a lanyard or a wrist loop. One side of the blade is decorated with an electroplated gilt drawing of a bison's head. On the other side, near the handle, there is a gilded inscription made with the same method: "Росоружие Златоуст" and the manufacturer's logo. The steel grade marking is visible just below the handle: 95x18. The sheath is made of smooth, black leather, with the manufacturer's logo and the word Златоуст embossed on it.

The Zlatoust company is one of several Russian knife manufacturers widely known outside of Russia. It prides itself on a centuries-old tradition in the production of bladed weapons. The gilding, in which the Ural-based Zlatoust is the undisputed leader among Russian companies, looks exceptionally good on dark Damascus steel blades.
