Berkut (9XC steel)
Description
Hand-forged knife made of 9XC tool steel. This steel is used for the production of metalworking tools such as drills and milling cutters. 9XC is a Russian designation. The number 9 means that the steel contains 0.9% carbon. The letters (of course in the Cyrillic alphabet) "X" and "C" denote chromium (Cr) and silicon (Si) respectively, of which there is not less than 1.5%. Knives and axes made of this steel appeared on the Russian market relatively recently. These are always forged products, they are not produced by stamping or rolling. To emphasize this, manufacturers almost always leave forging marks on the blades. Knives are hardened to 60-62 HRC, axes to 55-57 HRC.
