Description

The Baikal M is the latest knife variant from the Baikal line of Kizlyar Supreme, purportedly designed by the Kalashnikov Concern. I say "purportedly" because it is likely just a joint marketing project where Kizlyar Supreme provides the product and Kalashnikov lends its brand name. Marketing gimmicks aside, it must be admitted that the Baikals have been a successful project from the start. The Baikal M was released in late 2025 and lives up to the high standard set by its predecessors. The blade material is AUS-10Co steel with a high-quality cryogenic treatment, which allows for a hardness of up to 60 HRC. The blade length has been shortened to 10 cm. It features a full flat grind. At the base of the blade, on the spine, there is a serrated thumb ramp for support during thrusting. The blade has a stone wash finish. The handle is made of Kraton in a hidden tang construction. The sheath is black leather, closing with a flap and a snap button fastener.

The Dagestani company Kizlyar Supreme (not to be confused with Kizlyar, also from Dagestan) is one of several Russian knife manufacturers widely known outside of Russia. Kizlyar Supreme focuses on combining the old traditions of Caucasian knifemakers with the latest production technologies. Kizlyar Supreme products are the result of the manual work of craftsmen who have been making knives for generations, except that today they have the most modern programmable machining centers and hardening furnaces at their disposal.
