Yakutian big (H12MF steel with forging marks)
Description
A replica of a Yakutian knife made of H12MF steel (Western analogue – D2) with a handle of Karelian birch (unstabilized). Yakutian knives repeat the form of historical knives originally made from split animal bones. Therefore, one side of the blade, the one without a groove, is slightly convex. The groove (fuller) on the other side stiffens the blade and also saves material and reduces weight. The blade is forged, and unpolished forging marks have been left on the recess. The handle is made of unstabilized Karelian birch wood. The handle has no guard or even a thickening at the base of the blade to protect the hand from slipping onto the blade. This is a flaw, but very often found in the knives of the northern peoples, including Scandinavian puukkos. These knives simply were like that. Probably to use it efficiently you need to be a Yakut. The leather sheath also repeats the form of the original sheaths; besides the belt loop, it has ribbons for attaching to the belt. Hardness on the Rockwell scale 59-60 HRC.
