Yakut knife small (95x18steel, karelian birch handle)
Description
A stainless steel replica of a Yakut knife with an (unstabilized) Karelian birch handle. Yakut knives replicate the design of historical knives originally crafted from split animal bones. This is why one side of the blade—the one without a groove—is slightly convex, a feature that may not be clearly visible in the photograph. The fuller (groove) on the other side stiffens the blade, saves material, and reduces its weight. At the base of the blade, beneath the handle, there is a laser engraving that reads: "Ручная работа сталь 95x18 кованая" (meaning "Handmade, 95x18 forged steel") and the manufacturer's monogram. The blade is forged but has been ground to a smooth finish, leaving no forging marks. The handle is made of Karelian birch and lacks any guard or bolster to prevent the hand from slipping onto the blade. While this may be considered a drawback, it is true to the traditional design of these knives. Perhaps you need to be a Yakut to handle it proficiently. The deep-pouch sheath differs from traditional Yakut sheaths: it features a classic belt loop instead of being tied to clothing with leather thongs.
