Vostok (stainless bulat)
Description
Chromium-added stainless bulat from the Zhbanov forge. A few words about the term "stainless bulat", which is itself an oxymoron. It is commonly known that historical bulats contained iron and carbon. The only admixture revealed in historical products on a larger scale was phosphorus (up to 0.15%). Contemporary Russian manufacturers try to produce knives from a material as close as possible to historical bulat, i.e., carbon. The problem with carbon bulat is that it is corrosive, and the customer may get upset if they find pitting on a knife worth several tens of thousands of rubles from a few drops of dew that they did not wipe off the previous day. Therefore, Russian blacksmiths sometimes add chromium to the alloy, and what is created is called "stainless bulat". This category includes knives from the Zhbanov forge, also known as the "Bulat noz" company. All stainless bulats from Zhbanov are hardened in such a way that the hardness on the cutting edge is 64 and on the butt 62 HRC.
The Vostok is a large-sized field knife with a trailing point blade, which gives it an Eastern look. In this type of blade, the cutting edge has a clearly marked curvature on the belly, with good cutting properties. Due to the fact that the tip of the knife is raised above the spine line, it is more convenient to remove the cauldron from the fire with this knife. Handle made of black hornbeam, with decorative melchior casts, with finger profiling. Leather sheath, black, with "crocodile" embossing and a silent closure.
