Ural
Description
The first Ural models appeared in Kizlyar Supreme's offer at the end of 2019. At that time, it was probably the only medium sized knife from this company with a convex grind. This type of grind, ideal for chopping and therefore often found in machetes, is quite rare in smaller knives. The Ural was intended to be "heavy artillery": a tool capable of handling any task a hunter or hiker might face in field conditions. I don't know the exact origin of the AUS8 steel version, but its timing was opportune – the imported Sleipner steel used in the more expensive version would likely become too expensive for Russian manufacturers under sanction conditions. It's just a shame that the Ural in AUS8 lost its unique feature, the convex grind – now it is simply a sturdy field knife with a full flat grind. The bright G10 handle scales have also been replaced by Caucasian walnut. The sheath is leather, with an embossed pattern. The first of the photos below is from the manufacturer's catalog, the rest are real photos of a unit from our stock.
The Dagestani company Kizlyar Supreme (not to be confused with Kizlyar, also from Dagestan) is one of several Russian knife manufacturers widely known outside of Russia. Kizlyar Supreme focuses on combining the old traditions of Caucasian knife makers with the latest production technologies. Kizlar Supreme products are the result of the manual work of craftsmen who have been making knives for generations, except that today they have the most modern programmable machining centers and hardening furnaces at their disposal.
