Tiger (9XC steel)
Description
Hand-forged knife made of 9XC instrumental steel. This steel is used to make metalworking gears such as drills and milling cutters. 9XC is the Russian designation. The number 9 means that the steel contains 0.9 carbon. The letters (in the Cyrillic alphabet, of course) "X" and "C" mean chromium (Cr) and silicon (Si), respectively, of which there is not less than 1.5%. Knives and axes made of this steel appeared on the Russian market relatively recently. These are always forged products, they are not produced by stamping or rolling. To emphasize this, manufacturers almost always leave forging marks on the blades. Knives are hardened to 60-62 HRC, axes to 55-57 HRC.
The tiger has a straight drop point blade with minimal slope from the back. Partial hollow grind. The part of the blade above the grinding line to the spine was left unpolished, with visible traces of forging. The wooden handle is finished with decorative metal castings on both sides. The metal head of the handle is decorated with a double-headed Tsar's eagle and the manufacturer's monogram. Finnish-type sheath, made of brown leather.
