Scout NR H12MF (with Red Army star)
Description
A knife from a series reflecting a new trend on the Russian field knife market. Clones of the most widespread knives of military origin from the Soviet era are appearing more and more often in Russia. Models such as the NKVD finka, various modifications of NR (scout knives), or dual-bladed aviator pocket knives are still remembered by all who completed their compulsory military service up to the end of the 1990s, which is still a large part of the male population. Manufacturers consciously use these blade and handle shapes, which evoke nostalgic associations with the Soviet empire era. This also explains the appearance of communist symbols on the handles, which in reality were not even placed there "during the communist period."
In the knife presented here from the Siomin company, the blade's characteristic profile is reminiscent of the original NR. Thanks to the use of H12MF steel (a Russian D2 equivalent) with a hardness of 61-62 HRC, it could be "slimmed down" in relation to the original (shorter and thinner) to avoid the knife being classified as a melee weapon, which would require a permit in the Russian Federation. The ascetic and rather crude handle of the military originals has been replaced with a more elegant and ergonomic handle similar to that of the famous NKVD finkas, with the addition of Soviet symbolism (stars and the USSR coat of arms on the fittings, a red star with an inscribed hammer and sickle on the handle). It features an S-shaped double guard. The leather sheath has a dual fastening system: a snap button and a silent closure.
