Puukko S390 (handle: stabilized maple burl + mammoth tooth)
Description
This premium hunting knife is crafted from Bohler-Uddeholm steel with a hardness of 64 HRC. The knife features a straight blade with a fuller, typical for a puukko, and a full flat grind. It has a very elegant handle, as befits a top-of-the-line knife: stabilized maple burl (revealing the characteristic grain pattern of this material) with a mammoth tooth inlay and a nickel silver guard at the base of the blade. The manufacturer's monogram and the inscription "РУЧНАЯ РАБОТА S390" are laser-engraved on the blade beneath the handle. It comes with a brown, Finnish-style, slip-in leather sheath.
I am stating the blade hardness as per the manufacturer's catalog: "up to 68 HRC". I realize that 25 HRC is also "up to 68 HRC", but since the pandemic began, not to mention the war, I have not been able to travel to Russia. In the past, a brief conversation with a technologist was enough to get a clear picture. On the other hand, they operate in a very competitive market for niche products, so they strive to be accountable for the specifications they provide. It is generally accepted that the hardness of S390 after proper heat treatment ranges between 67 and 70 HRC.
