NKWD finka N690 steel (stabilized birch handle with a star)
Description
A modern replica of the legendary NKWD knife made with minimal changes from the original. The NKWD finka is a cult classic knife in Russia, known to most men who have completed military service, and at the same time an exceptionally sleek and practical tool, not too large, and suitable for everything. These fin-knives are extremely popular in Russia, and many companies produce entire model lines of their clones. The piece offered here comes from the Berezhnye Brothers' forge. The blade is made of N690 steel. The costly handle is made of stabilized Karelian birch with white acrylic inserts, finished on both sides with metal castings – a double guard and a pommel. Soviet symbols are visible on the handle, its pommel, and the sheath – on the handle, there is a hammer and sickle in a star, on the pommel, a sword of the revolution with a hammer and sickle and the inscription "НКВД". I now always pay attention to this because although the law delegalizing communist emblems in Poland has been repealed by the Supreme Court, there are places in Europe where you can get at least a fine for it. Below I am including a scan of an illustration from Igor Sklarov's book on edged weapons showing one of the original NKWD fin-knives.
