Folding finka NKWD 1
Description
A folding knife with a crossguard, inspired by the NKVD Finnish knife – a military knife introduced into the RKKA armament after the Soviet-Finnish War. Since then, the NKVD Finnish knife has gained cult status. Indeed, it was one of the few knives of military origin suitable for normal, everyday use. Usually, assault and trench knives are large pieces of crowbars with varying degrees of sharpness. The NKVD Finnish knife, in terms of size and construction, is a knife suitable for, for example, not only stabbing a loaf of bread to death but also slicing it and spreading butter on it. It was a very practical and pleasing knife, known to every man who had completed basic military service.
However, while NKVD Finnish knives were standard issue bladed weapons in the RKKA, their folding variants were never produced. They began to appear much later, mainly inzones(correctional camps), where prisoners made them to order for the campcommand, hence the Soviet symbolism present on them. It was an ideal gift for officials of various levels, and quite a few of these penknives were made.
Currently, only a few craft workshops produce folding NKVD Finnish knives, the most well-known are the Nazarov and Zbanov forges from Pavlov.
