Finka NKWD (U8 steel, "cherry" type handle)
Description
A knife reflecting a new trend in the Russian knife market. Clones of knives most widespread during the Soviet period, with military origins, are increasingly appearing in Russia. Models like the NKVD puukko, NR knives (reconnaissance knives) of various modifications, or aviation penknives with two blades are still remembered by everyone who served their mandatory military service until the end of the 1990s, which is still a considerable part of the male population. Manufacturers consciously resort to those blade and handle shapes that evoke nostalgic associations with the era of the Soviet empire, which also explains the appearance of communist symbols on the handles, which were not actually placed there even "during communism".
In the knife presented here from the Siomina company, the NKVD puukko-profile blade made of U8 steel has been "married" with a plastic "cherry" type handle from the NR model 1943, with a simple guard and a metal butt plate. The blade, slimmed down compared to the original, shorter and thinner, avoids classifying the knife as a bladed weapon, which in the Russian Federation would require a permit. The whole is completed with a leather sheath with a snap button fastening. As a result, we get a very lightweight tourist knife. An ideal gift for gentlemen who like military themes.
