Finka NKWD (65x13 steel)
Description
A modern replica of the legendary NKWD knife, made with minimal changes compared to the original. The NKWD Finka is a cult classic knife in Russia, known to most men who have completed military service, and at the same time, it is an exceptionally neat and practical tool, not too large, and suitable for everything. These finkas are extremely popular in Russia, and many companies produce entire model lines of their clones. This particular example is one of the cheaper clones of the NKWD finka, which is why the blade is made of inexpensive 65x13 stainless steel (the Russian equivalent of 420 steel) with a hardness of 55-56 HRC. This brings it closer to the original, which also used stainless steel, although the blade itself was thicker. The wooden, non-stabilized handle (ash) lacks the Soviet symbolism often found on these knives. Instead, the brass cast pommel features the emblem of the Soviet special services, the so-called "sword and shield of the revolution". Below is a scan of an illustration from Igor Sklarov's book on bladed weapons, showing one of the original NKWD finkas.
