Filleting knife (pattern welded damascus)
Description
Pattern welded damascus filleting knife. As intended, the blade is so thin that it can be bent between the fingers without any effort. At its thickest point, just under the handle, it is 1.5 mm thick. Towards the tip it becomes thinner, and with a full flat grind it can be sharpened almost like a razor blade. One of the photos below shows the blade bent with the tip resting on the table. Of course, the knife is dedicated to anglers. This may be surprising because carbon damascus steel is very susceptible to corrosion. Previously, I was hesitant to order such knives made of this material and the offer only included filleting knives made of stainless or semi-stainless steel. However, it turns out that there is a demand for such knives made of damascus, and customers from Germany and Scandinavia ask about them. Perhaps it is a matter of fashion and it is more about showing such a knife to your friends on the boat than working with it. The handle is made of birch bark rings pressed between two pieces of light wood. Leather sheath, black, smooth.
