DEstaing Dagger
Description
The Gebo Forge is among the top manufacturers in the Vorsma-Pavlovo region – a Russian hub for knife-making artisans with centuries-old traditions. The knives are highly refined and original, with designs that truly stand out from other companies' products. Gebo uses (or they use – besides hired workers, a father and son work in the forge) a composite steel of their own production, as well as high-quality laminates, also of their own making.
The "d'Estaing Dagger Gebo" is a knife based on a design developed by the French naval officer Charles Henri d'Estaing in the second half of the 18th century. In the folded position, the shorter part of the blade protrudes from the handle, which serves as a sheath for the rest of the blade. When unfolded, it becomes a considerably long knife with a crossguard, suitable for combat or for dispatching game (it was very popular among foresters and hunters throughout the 19th century). The blade is made of laminate: a U12 core with a hardness of up to 64 HRC on the cutting edge, with side layers of damascus with nickel threads. As befits a luxury replica of an iconic knife, the handle scales are made of stabilized Arizona ironwood. The knife is sold with a custom-made leather sheath featuring a hand-tooled (not machine-stamped!) design.
NOTE: the knife is not sharpened! This model is produced in such short runs that it is not worthwhile to obtain the certificate that would allow it to be sold without a permit on the Russian market, even if a substantial bribe could find an expert willing to issue such a document for something that clearly qualifies as a combat knife.
