Bear (mosaic damascus, ironwood, mammoth tooth)
Description
A beautiful knife with a mosaic damascus blade made in the Matvieyev workshop. He is a very well-known and respected producer specializing in mosaic damascus. His blades are used by many knife makers, even those with famous names and established brands on the market. The blade has a drop point profile with a full flat grind. The handle is made of ironwood. Theoretically, ironwood is the wood of one specific tree species (Olenya tesota from the Sonoran Desert), but in practice, this term is used for extremely hard, heavy, and difficult-to-process material obtained from many species of dead trees in North America (mainly in semi-desert or desert areas of Arizona, California, and Mexico) and even from tropical and subtropical regions of South and Central America and India. Ironwood is among the most valuable and sought-after wood species in the world. It is an excellent material for knife handles, characterized by high durability, resistance to weather conditions, and insect infestation. The pommel has a hole for a lanyard or wrist strap; on the blade side, there is a bolster made of nickel silver. The handle's elite character is further emphasized by a mammoth tooth inlay. The leather sheath is a Finnish-type slip sheath made of very stiff and hard leather, decorated with an embossed and colored drawing of an open bear's mouth and a hunting scene depicting a hunter and a bear standing on its hind legs. The knife is seated in it so firmly that it could be carried with the handle down, although the sheath is intended to be hung on a belt.
