Alacran
Description
Heavy (520 gr with sheath) machete made of Spanish stainless steel from Cuchilleria Forester. Designed by Oscar Agudo, Spanish YouTuber known as Mad Duck, publisher of the Survival Supervivencia 2014 channel. The profile is inspired by the falcatas popular on the Iberian Peninsula, and the knife follows the philosophy typical of all Forester field knives, putting the durability of the blade above all other characteristics. In Alacran, this is expressed primarily in the preference for a thicker blade and low cut at the expense of weight. We have here 5 mm thick 1.4116 stainless steel with a hardness of 56-57 HRC. In smaller knives, maximum hardness is sought, and where the blade is also used for chopping, a lower value of around 56 HRC is allowed. There are two sections on the cutting edge with different sharpening angles, as in parang machetes. Most of the blade is occupied by a low hollow grind closer to the handle, which turns into a 6-centimeter section with a slightly sharper grind angle. The blade is engraved with the J&V Adventure Knives emblem (trade brand of the Cuchilleria Forester factory), the inscription "Alacran Spain" and the steel brand marking. Full tang scheme with gray micarta handle covers. The end of the tang sticks out from the covers, you can hit it and attach a leash or wrist strap (there is a piece of paracord in the box for this).
Forester is one of the few old Spanish manufacturers that has resisted pressure to move production to China. The knives are still not only designed but also manufactured in the Forester factory in Albacete, Spain.
