A good, if not great, knife material (Spyderco and Benchmade knives are made from 8Cr13MoV), provided that the quality of heat treatment is ensured—which is achievable in brand-name products. The names begin with a digit indicating the carbon content, followed by the letters Cr (chromium), two digits specifying its percentage level, and the symbols for molybdenum (Mo) and vanadium (V) as alloying elements. These are martensitic steels with high corrosion resistance. 7Cr and 8Cr are considered analogues to AUS8 and high-grade 440 steels (types B and C).
