A blade made of so called pattern welded damascus. Such blades are created by repeatedly forge welding together a packet of steels with different carbon content. In this process, blades with a characteristic pattern are created. These are not corrosion resistant. Steel 4340 as an alloy additive contains (besides manganese, nickel and molybdenum) chromium at a level of 0.70-0.90%, but the blades still remain susceptible to corrosion.
