pattern welded damascus: Lady 2
Description
A blade made of so called pattern welded damascus. Such blades are created by repeatedly forge welding together a packet of steels with different carbon content. In this process, blades with a characteristic pattern are created. These are not corrosion resistant. This blade comes from Pakistan from a highly reputable craftsmen from Wazirabad who produce knives according to old technologies. The components of the packet are AISI 4340 and high carbon 1095. Steel 4340 as an alloy additive contains (besides manganese, nickel and molybdenum) chromium at a level of 0.70-0.90%, but the blades still remain susceptible to corrosion.
Lady 2 is a blade designed for a small, double-edged dagger with a handle suited for a delicate female hand. Such knives were secretly carried by wealthy ladies in the Middle Ages. Forged, 58-61 HRC. The blade is sharpened, with low hollow grinds.
