Weapons of the Russian Navy Sailors, 18th-20th Centuries (book in Russian)
Description
This is a beautifully published monograph on the personal weapons of the ship crews of the Russian Navy. Previously, the same publishing house (Russkije Witjazi) released a series of books by this author as part of the "Русский военный костюм" (Russian Military Uniform) series, covering the uniforms and armament of the Tsarist army units on the eve of World War I. You can find this title, as well as a wide range of literature in Russian (including topics on general survival, edged weapons, and military equipment and symbolism) at www.knigi.pl.
Publisher's note:
The book is dedicated to the cold steel and firearms of Russian naval sailors from the 18th to the 20th centuries. For the first time in domestic practice, a concise encyclopedia of the main models of cold steel and firearms for sailors and officers of the fleet, coastal services, and marine infantry has been compiled. The materials for the book were drawn from documents from federal archives, regulatory acts, and other published sources, as well as authentic weapons from state museums and private collections. For each model, the time of creation and adoption into service, a brief description, and distinctive features are provided, and the main stages of development and modification are listed. Along with the personal weapons of sailors, the book briefly describes boarding weapons, which have been sparsely covered in literature until now. Award and prize weapons are described separately. Special attention is paid to naval dirks, which from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day have been and remain one of the symbols of the navy. The book is richly illustrated with historical drawings, diagrams, and photographic documents, as well as photographs of weapons from museum and private collections, a significant portion of which are being published for the first time.
