Survival Hawk
Description
A branded tactical tomahawk featuring a stainless steel blade and a glass-reinforced plastic handle. The head is made of Chinese 2Cr13 stainless steel. The tomahawk, along with its blade cover, comes sealed in a plastic blister pack. The packaging does not specify the hardness, but 2Cr13 is typically hardened between 45–55 HRC depending on the intended use. For an axe, it can be assumed that the hardness will lean toward the upper end of this range. The tomahawk head features a 70 mm cutting edge on one side and a sharp spike on the other, reminiscent of historical war hammers (nadziak). The tip of the spike includes a cutout that serves as a wire breaker and a small pry bar. It is mounted on a straight, 29 cm long handle wrapped with black paracord at the bottom. The handle is made of black ballistic nylon (glass-reinforced plastic). A pleasant surprise is a fire starter concealed inside the end of the handle.
The product was designed by SOG (SOG Specialty Knives & Tools), a company specializing in military, tactical, and survival knives. The company's name pays homage to the elite special operations unit that operated during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1972 (Studies and Observations Group). Originally an American company, SOG was acquired in 2021 by the GSM Outdoors corporation, which also owns brands like Cold Steel. Production has been entirely moved to China, Taiwan, and Japan.
