Summer field general-purpose ACU uniform in US camouflage

This is a Russian-made copy of the Western ACU (Army Combat Uniform), consisting of a jacket and trousers in a US digital camouflage pattern, referred to in Russia as "American digital" (amerykanska tsyfra). This camouflage pattern is not in use by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, and therefore, Bars produces these uniforms for the civilian market. However, other variants of this "Russian ACU" in camouflage patterns officially adopted in Russia are produced by the same company, Bars, for the needs of the Ministry of Defence of the RF. Consequently, all ACU uniforms manufactured by Bars must meet the state standard (known as GOST), which favorably distinguishes them from copies by other manufacturers where production methods are often oversimplified. In terms of cut and design, they are very close to the original. The sizing chart corresponds to the Russian size-and-height scale, rather than the standard Western S-to-XL system.

The jacket features a zipper closure with a storm flap covering the zipper, fastened with hook-and-loop closures. The mandarin collar fastens with a hook-and-loop tab. On the front, there are two slanted chest pockets with hook-and-loop flap closures. Above the pockets are hook-and-loop fields for horizontal information strips (name, blood type). Both sleeves have shoulder pockets with hook-and-loop flaps, covered with large Velcro panels for patches. The uniform includes button-fastened shoulder tabs with camouflage overlays. The elbows are reinforced with an additional layer of fabric that forms an internal pocket, allowing for the insertion of foam pads (pads are not included with the uniform). The cuffs are adjustable with hook-and-loop tabs.

The trousers have eight pockets: two slanted front pockets, two rear pockets with buttoned flaps, two large cargo pockets on the thighs with slanted hook-and-loop flaps, and two smaller hook-and-loop pockets on the lower leg. The knees are reinforced, also with the option to use foam pad inserts. The trousers feature drawstrings at the ankle cuffs and on the inside of the waistband.

This uniform is manufactured by the Bars company and is made of rip-stop fabric (57% cotton, 43% synthetic fiber). Bars is an official supplier of uniforms for the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), and the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) of the Russian Federation.

Important note on Russian uniform sizing: unlike Chinese sizing (which is notoriously overestimated, e.g., a Chinese XXL is often a European L), Russian sizing tends to be very generous. This is likely because Russian field uniforms are cut to accommodate warm, thick underlayers, or even track pants and sweatshirts for added insulation. It is worth keeping this in mind when selecting a size.

Regarding the future availability of out-of-stock sizes: I am unable to say if or when a specific size will be available again. At the end of 2024, the Russian Federation introduced a ban on the export of camouflaged clothing so currently I am unable to import more Russian-made uniforms. The sets on offer are the remainder of old stock.
