Set of 3 Throwing Tomahawks
Description
Three all-steel throwing tomahawks with paracord-wrapped handles. The blade and handle are made from a single piece of 3Cr13 steel, which is close in characteristics to AISI 420 steel. It is a corrosion-resistant steel, though not completely - which is precisely why the axe features a black coating. 3Cr13 is a mass-produced steel, making it affordable. Additionally, it is easy to process using CNC machines. The hardness stated on the packaging (the tomahawks and their sheath are sealed in a plastic blister pack) is 50-56 HRC. The biggest drawback of 3Cr13, just like the 420, is poor edge retention. On the other hand, this steel is very easy to sharpen, even in field conditions, though in this case - for throwing axes - that does not matter much. Each axe weighs 234 g. They are sold as a set with a black Cordura blade guard/sheath.
The product was designed by SOG (SOG Specialty Knives & Tools), a company specializing in military, tactical, and survival knives. The company's name itself is a nod to the elite special operations unit that operated in Vietnam from 1964 to 1972 (Studies and Observations Group). It used to be an American company, but in 2021 it was acquired by the GSM Outdoors corporation, owner of brands like Cold Steel. Production has been entirely moved to China, Taiwan, and Japan.
