Gator hatchet
Description
A successful Chinese hatchet with a fiberglass handle. The blade is made of 3Cr13 steel, which is close in characteristics to AISI 420 steel. It is a corrosion-resistant steel, though not entirely - which is exactly why the hatchet features a black coating. 3Cr13 is a mass-produced steel, making it inexpensive. Additionally, it is easy to machine on CNC equipment. For a field hatchet/tomahawk, it is an optimal material. The biggest drawback of 3Cr13, just like 420 steel, is poor edge retention, but on the flip side, this steel is very easy to sharpen even under field conditions. A small knife is housed at the end of the fiberglass shaft. The hatchet is offered in two variants: with a sharp spike on the side opposite the blade (Caiman) or with a hammer/poll (Gator). Both are sold together with a blade cover made of Cordura. The hatchet weighs 670 g. The cover features a belt loop allowing the axe to be hung on a belt.
