Description
A patch of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (GUR) featuring the new emblem of Ukrainian military intelligence, introduced in 2016. The symbolism of this patch is very telling: An owl, a bird that naturally preys on bats which are the symbol of Russian military intelligence, holds a sword pointed directly at the map of the Russian Federation as the main adversary. Along the top edge of the field, there is an inscription in Ukrainian "Воєнна розвідка України" (Military Intelligence of Ukraine). The Latin motto on the bottom edge of the shield, "Sapiens Dominabitur Astris" (The Wise Will Rule The Stars), becomes clear in the context of the motto of the Russian military intelligence GRU spetsnaz: "Выше нас только звёзды" (Only the stars are above us). The patch is sold with a velcro panel. Diameter 95 mm.
