The book presents all dagger patterns of the world known to the authors from approximately the last 200 years. The identification guide contains data on dating and distinctive features of the dagger patterns, necessary for their attribution.

The first volume outlines the history of the dagger's development, defines the terminology, and presents illustrated European examples of this short-bladed cold weapon.
